The Course Outline

1. Algebra Foundation:

   • Understand the concept of variables and their use in algebraic expressions.

   • Evaluate algebraic expressions using substitution.

   • Simplify algebraic expressions by combining like terms.

   • Apply the order of operations (PEMDAS) to solve expressions.

2. Solving Equations:

   • Solve linear equations with one variable.

   • Solve equations with variables on both sides of the equation.

   • Solve equations involving absolute value.

   • Solve inequalities and graph their solutions on a number line.

3. Linear Equations and Functions:

   • Graph linear equations in slope-intercept form (y = mx + b).

   • Determine the slope and y-intercept of a line from its equation or graph.

   • Write the equation of a line given its slope and y-intercept or two points on the line.

   • Convert linear equations to standard form.

   • Use the point-slope form to write the equation of a line.

4. Systems of Equations:

   • Solve systems of linear equations by graphing.

   • Solve systems of linear equations by substitution.

   • Solve systems of linear equations by elimination.  

   • Interpret the solution of a system of linear equations.

5. Quadratic Functions:

   • Graph quadratic functions in vertex form.

   • Identify the vertex, axis of symmetry and maximum or minimum value of a quadratic function.

   • Solve quadratic equations by graphing.

   • Solve quadratic equations using the quadratic formula.

 

Note: This course is designed to be completed without a calculator! While calculators are valuable tools, developing a solid understanding of the underlying mathematical concepts is essential.
